Our Beliefs

Here’s some information about our church that you might like to know.

Our Beliefs

When God first created people, there was a beautiful unity and harmony among God, his people, and the rest of creation.  But then people chose to sin.  Sin is destructive to our selves, to others, and to God’s creation.  That sin separated us from God, and there is no way that we can break through our sin to gain that original unity and harmony with God on our own.  God had to do something to unite us back to himself.  That’s exactly what he did when Jesus Christ came into the world, lived a sinless life that we could not live. He died on the cross to receive the consequences for peoples’ sin, then He rose from the dead to bring the final defeat of death.  Anyone who believes in Jesus can be united to God in a beautiful unity and harmony which is not possible any other way.  In a relationship with Jesus Christ we find that we begin the healing of our sins and all the destruction that followed.  If you would like to talk with someone about how you can be united in perfect harmony with the God who made you, please call 399-1684. Be sure to check this link also for significant reasons to believe that the beliefs expressed by Christians are true.

The Bible forms what we believe.  We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and a faithful guide to understand the whys and hows of life.  No other book or source can make that claim.  We also are a confessional church.  As part of the Christian Reformed Denomination we profess that six documents give the most correct and true interpretation of the Bible.  Although these documents are not inspired by God, they are faithful interpretations of the true word of God, their faithfulness tested by hundreds of years of scrutiny by scholars of the Scriptures and the Christian faith.  Three of them are ancient “creeds” which are professed by many churches throughout the world:

The other three “confessions” are professed by many Reformed and Presbyterian denominations throughout the world and originated in the crucible of the 16th century.  The author of the Belgic Confession died for confessing his faith as expressed in that document.  The three are

These six summarize our understanding of the Bible’s most important teaching. Besides these six, one other more recent document declares our understanding of the Bible’s message for today:
