Our Purpose
Believing God long ago established our church to serve the
West Olive community, we commit ourselves to worship the Lord our God
joyfully and prayerfully, to love all people in word and in deed, and
to obey God's commission to make disciples.
Our Core Values
- Faithfulness
: We worship the Lord our God joyfully, seek to obey his will
wholeheartedly,
and trust his provision completely.
- Prayer
: We rely on God alone as our help and strength, and we exercise a
healthy
prayer life within our fellowship.
- Love
: We extend the love of God to everyone who enters our doors, and
minister
to the spiritual and physical needs of our neighbors by helping where
possible and inviting them to a living relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Truth
: We are dedicated to teaching the truth of God's word from a Reformed
perspective for the strengthening of all who are seeking to follow
Jesus.
- Hospitality
: We welcome and foster friendships with people from any background,
enfold people so that they become part of our community of faith, and
extend care to those in need in ways that maintain the feel of a small
church.
- Commitment
: We work at equipping each other to find his or her part in the life
of the church according to that person's spiritual gifts, encouraging
maturity and growth within the body of Christ.
- Resources: We give
faithfully of our time, spiritual gifts, and money with all our
hearts, trusting God's promise to open his storehouse abundantly.
Our Core Beliefs
At the heart of our beliefs is the Bible. One brief expression
of the Bible's teaching which we profess along with Christians
throughout
the world is The Apostle's Creed, which focuses especially on God as
one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
. The Apostle's Creed was not written by the apostles of Jesus, but it
contains
a brief summary of their teachings. It is dated no later than the
fourth
century A.D.
THE APOSTLES' CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our
Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he decended to hell.
The third day he rose again from
the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God
the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
(*that is, the true Christian church of
all times and all places)
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
