At West Olive Church we strive to provide
quality programs for all children and youth who participate.
This stress on quality includes the use of excellent materials, careful
screening of all leaders, ongoing training for leaders, and providing a
safe and pleasant physicial environment at the church. If you
would like more information on our policies for the safety of the
children and youth who participate, please click to see our Abuse Prevention and Child Protection Policy .
For more information on any of these programs, please call the church
office at 399-1684.
Nursery
| A safe, pleasant nursery is provided for babies and
young children during our worship services. |
Children's Worship
| Childrens' Worship begins
about 15 minutes into the morning worship service year round for
children three years of age through those in second grade. It is a
worship environment in which young children can grow in their sense of
worship as well as understand and participate in it. The childrens'
worship center is also a way to help prepare children to join the
"adult" worship service. The outline of the childrens' worship time is
similar to that of the adults with greeting, singing, story (Bible
message), response time, prayer, feast, and closing. The songs are
simple and done with hand motions. The stories are told using simple
physical objects which help the children imagine themselves into the
action. During response time the children can work with various objects
and activities (coloring, modeling compound, music, reading, or
retelling one of the stories). Response time helps the children spend
time with God and make the stories of God's word their own. |
Sunday School
Our Sunday School for
3-year-olds through eighth grade meets from 10:45 to 11:45 A.M. on
Sunday mornings, September through May. Van transportation to Sunday
School is available for free, and can by arranged by calling the church
office at 399-1684.
Sunday School begins with group singing of
Sunday School favorites and newer praise choruses. As well, the
children learn special songs and rehearse for various events in which
they are involved in church worship services including Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and a special pro-life service. Groups then divide into
classes grouped by age where the children learn about the Bible and how
it applies to their lives. The offering received each week goes
for special causes which may include disaster relief and missionary
support.
